Why The Switch to ICD-10 is Happening & Who Will Be Affected
October, 2013–The deadline for transferring to the ICD-10 coding set for reporting medical diagnoses and inpatient procedures is right around the corner. Doctors and their staff need to start preparing for this conversion to ensure that they are properly coding the services that they are rendering to patients. Even though October 1, 2014 is not too far away, there is still time to prepare for this conversion. However, we must first examine why there is going to be a transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 and what this means for doctors, their staff, and more importantly, their patients.
